THS4541: Design tools to determine applicability to drive a 16 bit ADS5560 @ 40MSPS

Part Number: THS4541
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS5560,

Do we have any design tools to help design a very low power FDA/ input filter front end for an ADS5560 running 40MSPS?

  • Hi Steve,

There is currently no tool that will be able to help design an FDA front end filter.
We do have this app note that discusses design methodology for an MFB filter in ADC interface you can use to help design a filter to your needs.

There is also this excel tool that will help in designing this MFB as per the above appnote.
    www.ti.com/.../MFBFILTER-CALC
These will help you design using single ended amplifier instead of an FDA, however they are both very similar as all you will need to do is repeat the inverting components on the non inverting pin and add a capacitor between and inverting and noninverting input pins of the FDA.

There is also this filter pro tool I found but I am not sure of its accuracy in helping you design a filter.

  • Hey,

Has your issue been resolved? I am going to mark this thread as resolved. You can still respond if you have further questions and it will reopen the thread.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Steve, I was on the THS4541 development team and have done numerous MFB filters using the THS4541. There were a few TI designs that illustrated some examples  that I helped with. You can find these under the tools and software tab in the web folder - If you mentioned what you are trying to do, pretty easy for me to gin up a design. Helps that the THS4541 TINA model is very good.

This one I had done targeting a 4th order Bessel filter - later I improved my GBP adjustment flow and republished 2 pertinent articles on Planet Analog,

Then I tuned up this 4th order design a little closer -

This TI Design showed a number of different solutions driving a quad ADC.

  • And also, I may have read too much into your question. Just simply driving an ADC becomes a question of SNR and SFDR degradation over the ADC specs. Have published quite a lot on that topic, but would be nice to know more specifics. I think there is an SNR degradation tool somewhere on the TI site if that is what you are after. There is a primer on this topic I wrote for the TechDays presentations . If that is what you are after, will see if I can find it.
