OPA320: How to design Single end sin wave Vp-p 0~40V and out put is differential Vp-p 0~"-40V "?

Part Number: OPA320
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLE2141-Q1, OPA2197, THS4131, LMH6551Q-Q1

Hi Sir

I have find TI have reference for single end to differential design as below link. but my customer us request Single end sin wave Vp-p 0~40V and out put is differential Vp-p 0~"-40V "?

if there have idea for this kind design, may you have suggestion part?(customer need Automotive rating and low cost / Frequency is 50HZ ~ 40KHz)

  • Hello Chen,

None of the Precision Amplifiers HV Op amps that can support a 0 to 40 Vpp output are automotive qualified. The closest device to meeting the requirements you listed is the TLE2141-Q1, which is rated with a maximum supply voltage of 44 V. The limitations to obtaining the required output range will be how close the TLE2141-Q1 output can swing to the supply rails, and possibly the input common-mode voltage range depending on the input configuration. Realistically, the output isn't likely to swing closer than several volts from each rail limiting the output to something quite a bit less than 0 to 40 Vpp.

  • Hi Thomas

The customer reduce Vp-p +/- 12V . Is there have suggestion part?

  • Hello Bogey,

Take a look at the OPA2197 datasheet. It is a 36 V precision CMOS op amp with very high dc and ac performances. Datasheet Figure 53. shows the OPAx197 being applied in a 16-Bit, 400-kSPS, 4-Channel, Multiplexed Data Acquisition System. You can see the datasheet here:

You should be able to configure the OPA2197 in a 24 Vpp differential output configuration. You will need to power the OPA2197 from a dual supply to accommodate both positive and negative input voltage polarities.

  • Hello Bogey,

Has your e2e inquiry regarding op amp differential output been satisfactorily been addressed? If so, please close this session.

  • Hello Chen, of course one typical application for a fully differential amplifier (FDA) is to directly translate a single ended input to differential with a seperately controlled output common mode voltage. There are drawbacks of course, lower input impedance is one, but take a look at the THS4131.

On +/-15V supply it can take a single ended input to differential output. It has say a conservative 1.5V output headroom, so each output side can swing +/-13.5V for a total differential swing of 54Vpp. It will not have the DC precision of the two op amp approach but is pretty low noise. You would likely be noise limited by the resistors.  I put some I/O swing range discussion for FDA's in this article if that helps

  • I had missed the automotive requirement, not much there in the FDA world, maybe the
