THS4032-EP: recommended configuration for connections on an unused channel

Part Number: THS4032-EP

Is there a recommended configuration for connections on an unused channel with this device.  For example, should they all be grounded or left as no connects.  Any insight on this would be much appreciated.

  • Hello Michael,

Looks like it is unity gain stable, basically for the unused channel you

    1. Don't want it saturating against the rails as that might produce unnecessary supply current draw

    2. Don't want it oscillating

The easiest is to configure it as a unity gain buffer with the V+ input midsupply and no load, might want to check phase margin no load and if low, add a load to ground.

To improve phase margin add resistors to operate as some higher non-inverting gain, just be sure the V+ input and that gain stays close to a no output current condition.

  • Incidentally, this is one of those parts with kind of  a confusing GBP. There is not spec line, but the Aol curve suggests 200Mhz looking at the 40dB Aol gain point at 2MHz. However, the TINA model produces a 115MHz GBP Aol curve.

There has accumulated quite a lot of confusion on this issue, might clear that up in a future article.

To preview, if your crossover frequency has <70deg phase margin, you will get about a 1.6X SSBW extension from the LG=0dB frequency.
