LM7321: Thermal Operating Conditions (Cold)

Part Number: LM7321

Hi Team,

The datasheet specifics  -40°C for the cold end "Recommended Operating Conditions" (Section 7.3).

Will the decide operate down to -55°C?  Will damage occur if tried?  Is there a MIL-Grade options?

Thank You.

    Hi Casey,

TI does not guarantee performance outside the "Recommended Operating Conditions."  So, we cannot say whether or not the part will work.  I would stay away from operating outside these conditions.

It does not look like there is a "MIL" grade option for this part in particular.  But, I will double check for you and get back on that.  Here's a link to a helpful tool for you to find a part that may fit your needs.  I've pre-screened for the military rating.  However, you can adjust the search parameters as you see fit.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Regards,

    Daniel

  • Hey,

    Thanks for the response.

For this application we have a warm up time before guaranteed performance is required.  Self heating will warm us into data sheet acceptable temperature ranges.  Do you foresee any permanent damage with a -55C turn on? Or is it just performance isn't guaranteed until acceptable temperatures are achieved?  I am asking because I noticed storage temperature going down to -65C.

    Thanks,

    Casey

    Casey,

Understood.  Do you just need the extended temp range or do you need a part that is specifically "military grade?"

To be perfectly honest, I just don't know what will happen below -40C as I don't have any experience testing out parts at temperatures that low.  There are certainly risks.  But, I can't say what that would be.

Let me know if you need help picking a part with a lower minimum temperature.

    Regards,

    Daniel
