[FAQ] AMC1311: Can I use VOUTp only in a Single Ended configuration

Part Number: AMC1311
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC3301, AMC1301

Yes! However, there are some things you need to consider:

  • The AMC1311 only has a positive input voltage range.
  • The AMC1311 has a gain of 1 V/V so the differential outputs will swing from a common mode of ~1.44 V +/- 1 V. VOUTp will go from 1.44 to 2.44 V while VOUTn goes from 1.44 to 0.44 V with a full scale positive input.
  • Using only VOUTp (or VOUTn) utilizes half of the AMC1311’s output voltage range, which reduces your Signal to Noise Ratio.
  • VOUTn should not be grounded! The output stage is actively driven, use a 10k Ω to ground or leave the pin float.
  • Variations of up to +/- 50 mV in common mode output voltage will appear as an offset and would require calibration.
