Hello E2E,

We have written the data 62DDh to 00h-register.
When is the Alert flagging when the conduction current reaches the OC threshold? After the 4-th sampled? Please let me know when to fire.

Regards,
ACGUY

  • Hello ACGUY,

According to you configuration register setting you have averages = 1, VBUS CT = 588µs, Ishunt CT = 588µs, and device set to shunt only, continuous operating mode.

The ALERT response time is independent of the number of averages since the value considered is compared to the ALERT level after every single conversion time. See Figure 23 of the datasheet:

Given you are only measuring the shunt current this means that the absolute maximum response time for ALERT flagging once the true current has exceed the OC threshold is 2*Ish_CT, where Ish_CT is the shunt current conversion time. It is most likely that the response time will be closer to 1*Ish_CT. The reason it could potentially take up to two conversion times is if the current is very small and then quickly rises to > threshold, which will cause the sampling within the first CT to potentially yield a value < threshold. This could become more probably the smaller the Ish_CT becomes. Note that if you set the device to measure VBUS, the theoretically maximum response time will take {2*Ish_CT + VBUS_CT}, although this should be unlikely once again.

    Hope this answers your question.

    Best,

    Peter
