AFE032: CE certification

Part Number: AFE032
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS6222, THS6212

Hi, expert,

My customer plans to use AFE032 in G3-FCC mode, can it pass the CE certification?

Best Regards.

Chen

  • Hi Chen Yan,

Are there particular tests in G3-FCC PLC certification you customer is concerned about? It should not be an issue.

AFE032 IC has conducted FCC CE (conducted emssions) test, see the attached image. In addition, typical Tx and Rx noise characteristics are presented on p. 15-16 of the datasheet.

  • Hi, Raymond

Thanks for your reply. Customer want to use the FCC frequency, higher than 600kHz and want to pass German CE certification. Is the 60dB uV a matter to pass CE?

    Best Regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Chen,

From the Figure 11's performance, CE is extended to 1MHz, and conducted emission levels are all below 60dB uV from 520kHz to 1MHz. Yes, it should be good.

AFE032 is designed for NB-PLC, which is defined less than 500kHz BW. In theory, >500kHz BW is no longer covered in narrow band PLC, and it is in broad band (BB) PLC category. AFE032 will work for 600kHz, see attached image (Gain=15.2dB up to 0.9-1MHz or 5.6V/V). Keep in mind, beyond the range, you may have to consider THS6222 or THS6212 line driver.  Both ICs are just line drivers, and does not contain the peripherals that are integrated into AFE032. BB PLC application is covered by a different engineer in Op Amp high speed group.

Also, the device per CE compliance in NB vs. BB PLC may be different. You have to look up the CE document and passing requirements for the tests.

    Raymond

  • Hi Chen,
