OPA2991-Q1: MAX output voltage swing LOW

Part Number: OPA2991-Q1

Hello,

I have some questions about parameters of OPA2991-Q1.

Customer wanted to get parameters such as min output voltage swing HIGH and MAX output voltage swing LOW.

Could you let me know what I use parameters in datasheet for those max and min value?

And I have another question?

In datasheet, OPA2991-Q1 limit electrical damage due to excessive output current. Is this short circuit protection?

Best Regards,

Kevin Shin

  • Hi Kevin,

yes, this is short circuit protection, in the first place. See figure 38 to see how the short circuit current is limited. But with high supply voltages this might not be sufficient because the OPAmp can dramatically heat up during short circuit. Then the thermal protection sets in. This is beautifully explained in section 7.3.3 of datasheet.

What you are asking for is shown here:

Just add the values to the negative supply voltage (negative rail) and subtract them from the positive supply voltage (positive rail).

  • Thanks Kai!

    Hi Kevin,

In addition to what Kai provided, Figures 14 and 15 show how the output voltage collapses as output current increases towards the short circuit current limit of the device.

    Thank you,
