LMC6482: AN-1515 A Comprehensive Study of the Howland Current Pump

Part Number: LMC6482
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA192, OPA4191, OPA4192, OPA2192, OPA2191, OPA191

Hi sir,

I'm looking at AN-1515 A Comprehensive Study of the Howland Current Pump .

There is quite a few listed OpAmps in Appendix B that is recommended.
Is there any update perhaps to this or choosing the best OpAmp?

Thanks,

Regards,

  • Hi F007,

the answer is already given in the appendix you are referring to. Just use the link given there :-)

  • Hi,

For “Improved” Howland current pumps, as the article describes, amplifiers that are rail to rail input/output are ideal for this circuit especially for designs with limited output headroom. Another suggestion when zeroing in on the best amplifier is to consider the output current and its effects on output voltage. “Output voltage vs. output current” graphs in the amplifier’s datasheet should be considered since some amplifiers perform better for the same output current, and use this information to account for headroom as well. For more precise amplifiers not list in the appendix, I suggest the OPA192 (single), OPA2192 (dual), OPA4192 (quad). The OPA191 / OPA2191 / OPA4191 are also great options for low power designs.

If you have any design questions specific to your application and need help narrowing down an amplifier with your design goals please ask.

  • Hi Ignacio,

    not to forget the OPAx197:-)
