PGA309: Current output type calibration fail

Part Number: PGA309
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: XTR115

Dear team,

My customer are evaluating PGA309 at their pressure sensor. but there is issue of calibration.

- Application : Pressure sensor current output type. (4 to 20mA output)

- issue : calibration fail  at low pressure under room temp(25 degree C)

Passed high pressure but low pressure failed. please review below and let me know your opinion regarding fail reason. Why is it failing? Which part should I debug?

  • HI,

    A couple of questions:-

    - Are you using your own Custom PGA309 test card PCB board?  If yes, can you please post the schematic?

    - What is the impedance of the bridge sensor?

    - If this is a TI PGA309 multical test card, kindly list the jumper settings,

    - Please confirm that all jumpers on the Multi-Cal-Interface PCA are placed in the "I" position for current mode.

A very common issue with 2-wire current loop transmitters related to the minimum scale: the total current consumption of Bridge Sensor+ PGA309+ XTR115 (or current transmitter)  must be less than < 4mA.

If the current consumption of the circuit+sensor is more than 4mA, the minimum 4mA scale will not work.

If you think this is the case, please take a quick look at the blog below regarding 2-wire 4-20mA current loop transmitters:

    Blog:  2-Wire 4-20mA – IRET < 4mA

    Many Thanks and Regards,

    Luis
