INA240: current sense resistor - trace length

Part Number: INA240

Dear TI Amps Team,

my customer was reading the layouts recommendations for the INA240 in the datasheet and we recommend equal traces length from the current sense resistor to the chip (or to the filter). Do you have some knowledge or data about how much trace length affects the final accuracy of the chip?

Thanks and best regards,

Joe

  • Hi Joe,

There is little concern over the length of the traces. For a trace of typical width such as 10mil, it would have to be many feet to accumulate enough resistance to affect IN240’s accuracy.

However the bigger concern is to avoid noise pick up by the long traces. General best practices in layout are good to follow, such as staying away from noisy traces or at least not running parallel to them in close proximity.

    Regards, Guang
