INA210-214

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA210, INA303, INA302, INA301, INA300, INA381

Hi Sirs,

Sorry to bother you.

I think it would be good if the Digital output can only provide HIGH/LOW signal instead of I2C.
Therefore, I found INA210~214 which may feet our application.

Our application is

The actual output current should be up to 75mA

And we would like to set the output as HIGH when the current is higher than 10mA and LOW when the current is lower than 10mA

Which one is suitable for our application between INA210-214? How should I select RL?

Please help to advise. Thanks.

  • Hi,

What you are looking for is a comparator; INA210-INA214 can only get you half way there. You’ll need to cascade a comparator to the current sense amplifier output and set the threshold accordingly.

You asked how to select RL. I assume this is the sense resistor that you’re referring to. You’ll want to consider

    (1)    How much voltage drop on RL you can tolerate

    (2)    What comparator threshold you want to design for, and related, if the current sense amplifier can provide corresponding output level comfortably.

    (3)    Corresponding to 10mA threshold, what % error can be tolerated

Alternatively you can look into our products with built in comparators. Among them are INA300, INA301, INA302, INA303, INA381. Although the same set of questions remain for selecting RL

  • Hi Sirs,
    Thanks for the feedback,
    INA300 looks good to me,

but I want to know how to select Rlimit and the current sense resistor,

    In generally,
We don't need the exact value of current. Instead we would like to turn on the LED through ALERT pin.
The Current should be up to 100mA,
But I want to set the current limit threshold at 10mA
Do you have any idea about the Rlimit and Current sense resistor setting?
    thanks.

Please let me know if there is anything unclear.
  • Hi,

Glad you find INA300 can potentially serve in your application. If haven't already, please watch this training video and then let me know if you have any specific questions. This video explains in great details what you wanted to know.
