LOG114: LOG114 A5?

Part Number: LOG114
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA365,

Dears.

Can I use OPA365 instead of A5 without using the High-Current Linearity Correction function?

Consider entering A5 into V_BAIAS.

Thank you.

  • Hello Henry,

Regarding your inquiry about the LOG114:

Can I use OPA365 instead of A5 without using the High-Current Linearity Correction function?

You certainly can forego adding the high-current linearity correction circuitry if input currents 1 mA< I1< 10 mA won't be encountered. The OPA365, or another Op amp, will still be needed to establish the +2.00 V VBIAS used by the LOG114 EVM, which operates from a single +5 V supply. If you aren't using a LOG114 EVM, then the Figure 2. Single-Supply Configuration Example can be applied without the need for the VBIAS circuit. VREF (pin 16) provides the equivalent VBIAS function, but with a +2.50 V voltage instead.

    Consider entering A5 into V_BAIAS...

LOG114 A5 could be applied as the VBIAS source. However, it is not as dc precision as the OPA365. Its voltage offset, voltage offset drift, input common-mode voltage range (Vcm), CMRR, etc. will not be at the same high levels as what can be provided by the OPA365. If the LOG114 application doesn't require the highest level of dc precision, then A5 can be used in place of the OPA365. Just compare the Electrical Characteristics tables for the LOG114 A5 and OPA365 Op amps and see what meets the application's needs.
