INA210: NC pin - what is it connected to internally on the die

Part Number: INA210
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA240

Team,

After a review of an older designs our team realized that we dont connect the NC pin to ground as is specified in the datasheet. Do you know if this pin actually connects to anything internally or is it just specified to be connected to ground so it isn’t floating?

  • Hi Michael,

Usually, if the NC pin is not physically connected to the die, it can be left floating or connected to either supply or ground. If the datasheet specifically says “connect to ground”, I would assume it is internally attached to the die for certain functionality. One such example is test pin, which is only used during manufacturing.

It has to be looked into on a case by case basis, but often the external hard grounding is an ultimate safety measure to guarantee that the device never enters test mode by accident.

FYI-The quoted pin table doesn’t align with INA210.

    Regards, Guang

  • Guang,

Thank you for the information, I did mistype and the device is actually the INA240.

Can you confirm that this NC pin is or is not connected to the die. you mentioned that you assume that it is. I will need a firm confirmation, As I mentioned it is an older design and if it is not connected to the die we may be okay but if it is and requires grounding we will need to change the board.

  • Hi Michael,

For INA240, this pin is indeed connected internally to the die.
