INA216: INA216

Part Number: INA216

Hi Sir,

Could you please provide the information below:

  1. Based on the INA216 data sheet page12, do you have any recommendation of Zener diode to protect the INA216 with transients above 5.5V?

2. Please advise if it is possible to move the Rprotect and Zener diode from location A to location B (nearby the Vcm input supply)?

Could the protection devices still provide the protection for INA216 with transients above 5.5V after the changes of location?

Other than placing Zener diode and resistor in series (as shown in INA216 Datasheet Figure 22), could we place a TVS Diode at location B? Does TVS diode help to achieve the  transient protection above 5.5V?

Thanks, Ian.

  • Hi Ian

    • Please refer to this document for an example.
    • It is possible, but is it a good solution? I see a couple of questions you’ll have to ask before deciding:
      1. Will Rprotect consume more power than you can afford?
      2. Are transients from Vcm the only spikes that the Zener is supposed to protect against?

If the answer is “yes” to both, then location B should be fine.

    Regards, Guang
