INA199: Step response of INA199A1

Part Number: INA199
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA240, INA181

Hi  Team,

I have some questions from a customer about INA199A1.

1. About the response speed of INA199A1
The "Step Response" described in the data sheet seems to be only for A3 type. Could you give the waveform  of step response of INA199A1 ?

2.Please tell us a product that can respond to current changes faster than the INA199 series while satisfying the following conditions.
・ 0A can be detected
・ Gain: 50V / V or 100V / V

Regards,

H.Someno

  • Hidekazu,

I had a look, and it looks like only the A3 variant was formally characterized for the datasheet when this device was published. This is most likely due to the products inside the family exhibiting similar responses from product to product. Regardless, I don't have additional datasheet images of the other parts I can share here.

To be able to truly measure 0A, the customer is going to have to use a device with a REF pin. For unidirectional devices, it will slam into the devices swing limitation before it reaches the zero mark on the output side. The solution to this is to pedestal the output via REF so that the output sits above the swing limitation. For this I would recommend two options: if the customer needs a precision solution, I would have a look at the INA240; if they are still looking for cost optimization, the INA181 may be of interest here. These devices have slew rates in the 2-2.5V/us range, where the INA199 is 0.4V/us. Keep in mind we're only examining this from an output speed perspective, so we would still need to examine their input signal conditions to ensure these devices would work for their application.
