SN54AC14-SP: MAx input voltage

Part Number: SN54AC14-SP

Dear all,

one of my AA needs a clarification on the ABS max of the Vin pin.

In the Datasheet (SMD 5962-87624) it is reported the following:

Absolute maximum ratings. 1/ 2/ 3/

Supply voltage range (VCC).................................................................................. -0.5 V dc to +7.0 V dc

DC input voltage range (VIN) ................................................................................ -0.5 V dc to VCC + 0.5 V dc 6/

DC output voltage range (VOUT) ........................................................................... -0.5 V dc to VCC + 0.5 V dc 6/

Clamp diode current (IIK, IOK) ............................................................................... ±20 mA

6/ The input and output voltage ratings for device type 02 and device types 01 and 03 (for vendor CAGE F8859) may be exceeded provided the input and output current ratings are observed.

Can the VIN exceeds 7V if the input current is less than +/- 20mA ? which is the meaning of "may be exceeded"?

regards,

Domenico
