ADS5294EVM 2-wire lvds.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS5294EVM, ADS5294

Hey guys,

I was looking at the ADS5294EVM and wanted to use it in 12-bit 2-wire LVDS format. is this possible?, because the datasheet suggests 2-wire LVDS is supported only when the ADC is set for 14-bit resolution.

Also the ADS5294EVM schematic shows only 8 SMA connectors for 8 channels, surely for 2wire-LVDS there should be 2 SMA's per channel hence 16 SMA connectors. Could you please shed some light on this? any help would be much appreciated. Thanks very much.

Best wishes

Joel

  • Joel,

We have received your post and hope to have a response back to you soon.

  • Hi Joel,

Yes, 12-bit 2-wire mode is possible. The datasheet does not mention it because the max sampling speed of 80MSPS can be met using 1-wire mode since the interface speed remains below the 1Gbps max limit.

The ADS5294 is an 8 analog channel device therefore, there are only 8 sma's for the analog inputs.  It is the digital output that can be used in 1-wire or 2-wire mode.  In 1-wire mode there are 8 LVDS differential pairs corresponding to the 8 analog inputs.  In 2-wire mode, there are 16 LVDS differential pairs with each analog input getting 2 outputs.

    Regards,
