AFE5809EVM: Need ini file for AFE5809EVM to connect to TSW1400EVM

Part Number: AFE5809EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE5809, AFE5808

Dear Friends,

We are trying to connect AFE5809EVM  to TSW1400EVM following the AFE5809EVM  user manual guidelines.

Page 8 of slou338a document explains that we need to select AFE5809_09_14b as our device, however, I cannot find this device on our device menu of HSDC Pro software. So, instead of that I choose AFE5809 on the device menu. It seems that the firmware is downloaded and the device is connected properly. The following photo shows the LEDs after selecting ADE5809 from the device menu.

Notes:

1. We are providing the power for TSW1400EVM from the JP6 of AFE5809EVM. Our power supply provides +5v with 3A, so it should be enough for both devices. The power supplied to TSW1400EVM  is +5v and ground. The power supplied to AFE5809EVM is +5v, ground, and -5v.

2. As seen in the photo, 2 out of total 8 LEDs are off. User LED 4 and 5 (D6 and D7).

3. We are not yet providing any analog signal inputs to the device.

Questions:

By using HSDC Pro software, I set the ADC output data rate to 40M and ADC input Target Freq. to 2M, then I click on capture button and I receive the following error. What does this error mean and how can I solve it?

  • Hello Sajad,

We have received your inquiry about the AFE5809EVM and hope to have some answers back to you by next week.
  • Hi Sajad,

There was a typo in the users guide for the ini file. It should have been AFE5808_09_14b.

What is the version of your HSDC Pro software?

Also did you start the AFE5809EVM GUI and issue a Software Reset? This would reset the registers and also program the registers to the EVM default.

  • Thank you for your reply.

My HSDC Pro software version is v4.40

I chose AFE5808_09_14b as you mentioned. I have also issued a Software Reset from AFE5809EVM GUI. However, I get the following error:

No Firmware. Please select a device to load firmware into the board.

  • I suppose the problem is with the firmware. The AFE5808_09_14b does not work with our AFE5809EVM Rev. A.
We'll be waiting for your respond.
    Thank you
  • Sajad,

After the firmware is loaded, only USER_LED4 (D6) will be off. USER_LED5 (D7) should be on.

USER_LED5 (D7) is tied to the status of the DDR memory initialization. If this LED is not turned on, then it implies that the on-board DDR2 memory failed to initialize. Can you try re-inserting the DDR memory module and let us know if the USER_LED5 turns on?

Additionally can you let us know the label information on the DDR memory module?
  • Dear Praveen,

I did try reinserting the DDR Memory, but it didn't work. DDR memory tag is: MT8HTF12864HZ-800H1 , 1GB 1RX8 PC2-6400S-666-13-B0.

    IMPORTANT UPDATE:

I did try to download the AFE5809_09_14b firmware on the board, however, I get the following error. I did try other firmwares for other devices, but I get the following error every time.

First I see the following message:

Then I see the following error:

We cannot do anything with this board because of this error.

    Question:

Did you guys at TI even tried running your software on your device before selling them to your customers?

  • NEW UPDATE:
I used another computer and reinstalled both AFE5809EVM GUI and HSDC Pro software. So, when I choose AFE5808_09_14b, I don't receive "No Firmware. Please select a device to load firmware into the board." message anymore.
However, I still receive the same problem as explained in my first post of this thread.
Please enlighten us with your advice.
    Thank you
