USB2ANY Firmware update failure (DRV10983EVM)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10983EVM, USB2ANY, CODELOADER, DRV10983

I can't update the firmware on my new USB2ANY, and thus I cannot use my new DRV10983EVM.  I've gone through the hold-the-button-down while plugging in the USB cable a dozen times.  It doesn't work.

There are many posts reporting this problem, but I haven't found any answers.  Most posts just end with no solution given.    My situation is similar to this person's situation:  except that I can't get Codeloader to open.

I've tried to install Codeloader, but the downloaded file won't open.  I've downloaded it twice.  Double clicking on it does nothing.

Please please please post a definitive answer to the problem!

  • Hi Gary,

Sorry to hear of your trouble. Our experts are being notified and should reply soon.
  • Gary,

I was not able to open this link " this person's situation" to get details for this problem.

Would please you direct me a link or information to get details for this problem? Thank you.

    Thanks again,

    Janet Yi

  • Sorry about the delay.  For some reason I didn't get a notification of this post. Here's the link

Sorry about that.  It's not clear how to use the editor her to add links inline.     Nonetheless, as far as I can tell the DRV10983EVM will not work at all (aside from its default demo) until this is resolved.

  • Gary,

Please follow attachment steps to see if you still have trouble to get USB2ANY firmware to be updated.

Please do feedback to us after you try it no matter it works or not.Thank you.

    Thanks again,

    Janet

  • Janet,

Thanks for replying.   But the instructions that you sent me are exactly what I've been trying, and it doesn't work.    Perhaps I was not clear enough when I said "I've gone through the hold-the-button-down while plugging in the USB cable a dozen times.  It doesn't work."    The instructions you send are exactly what I meant, and to be clear, they do not work for me.

One thing is a little different today.  Last week I could get to step 7 in the instructions, click on Update Firmware, but then I'd get an error and the process would stop.  Today when I get to step 6, hold down the button and reconnect the USB cable, nothing at all happens.

    Gary

  • Janet,

I was perplexed that I could not get to step 7 today. So I rebooted the computer. After the reboot, the firmware updated successfully.

    Gary

PS, I'm rather dismayed that this software runs only on Windows. We are a Linux, OS X house so I have to run this on a virtual machine, or an old Win XP machine that we have. It would be appreciated if your applications could be cross-platform.
  • Gary,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Look like Step 6 is hard to get to and need to add "reboot" between Step6 and Step7.

Were you able to use DRV10983EVM/GUI with USB2ANY after firmware updated successfully?

    Thanks again,
    Janet

  • It seems to be working. I'm trying to learn how to use it now.
  • Hi, I am facing the same problem. I cannot get to step 7 whatever I try, reboot, reinstall HID driver, reattach device and so on and so on.
Is there another solution? Maybe another software than the DRV10983 EVM GUI that also uses the USB2ANY box?

    best regards
    Lutz
  • Hi Lutz,

I have notified USB2ANY expert here to comment

  • Posting on behalf of USB2ANY team

    Hi Lutz,

I'm sorry that you are experiencing a problem with the USB2ANY. First, let's make sure that the BSL switch (the switch inside the small hole) and the USB2ANY are working properly. Please verify that the following are true:

    1. When the USB2ANY is powered-on without the BSL switch depressed, the LED blinks a couple of times and then stays on.

    2. When the USB2ANY is powered-on with the BSL switch depressed, the LED turns on but does not blink.

Some additional information would be helpful:

    1. If you have access to another USB2ANY, could you please try using it to see if the same problem occurs?

    2. Has the USB2ANY worked previously, then stopped working, or have you always had this problem?

    3. Which operating system is the host computer running (e.g., Windows 7, Windows 10, Mac OS X, Linux)?

    4. Is the application that uses USB2ANY running directly on the host or in a virtual machine?

    5. When you run the application, is the "USB2ANY Firmware Requirement" dialog displayed? If so, it should tell you the version that is required and the current version. Please tell me the version numbers that are displayed.

That should be enough information for now. After I review the information you provide, I'll let you know what the next steps are.

    Best regards,

    Randy

  • Hi Randy,

    thank you for your help!

    1. I do not have a scond USB2ANY

For the next answers to your questions I think it is better to tell what I did:

When first connectimng the USB2ANY the DFV10983 GUI asked to do an update of the firmware, but could not list the revision of the firmware that already was on the device. Trying to update the firmware with this GUI failed. I cam to the dialgog for updtae clicked on OK and nothing happend.

Then I looked to the WWW and found that there is another tool out there. CodeLoader. Downloaded it and this tool asked too to upgrade the firmware and this time it worked to upgrade it. But it upgraded it to Rev 2.7.0.0.

Then I went back to the DRV10983 GUI and this time it asked again to upgrade the Firmware, this time it worked too. But the 'new' firmware was now 2.6.3.0, i.e. a little older than the one CodeLoader upgraded (?).

Ok, then I could work with the DRV10983 GUI.

So her is the rest of the answers:

    2. see text above

    3. Win7 64bit

    4. direct, no VM

    5. see text above

Again, thank you for your help. Best regards, Lutz

  • Hi,

I am having the same problem. I am unable to get to step 7. Was anyone able to figure out the solution?

  • Hello, we need several usb2any adapters. Where can we get some?

    Thanks
  • Hi James,

Unfortunately we don't sell USB2ANY separately.
