An issue while Driving Ceiling Fan using DRV10983

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10983

Dear TI Support team,

I am evaluating DRV10983 designed using an application circuit for the ceiling fan. I configured the registers as suggested by Tuning guide and by using the Motor parameters.Speed control is done using External PWM signal from the controller. It works fine ,I could achieve the max rpm  and even the speed control using PWM . I have used IPD for the position detection, enabled ISD and all other parameters using tuning guide and could achieve sufficient startup and commutation.

There is an issue that when we switch off the fan and switch on before  it gets stationary ,it is not driving until it gets stationary/motor stop completely (i.e start up and commutation is not happening if it has some initial speed) . I have enabled the ISD and verified all the ISD threshold values but I couldn't solve the issue. Could you tell me is/are there any parameters other than ISD could resolve the issue?

Motor parameters for your reference

Motor resistance 1.54ohms

Motor Kt 415mv/hz

Maximum speed 385 rpm

Operating Voltage 24V

Maximum Current 1.45A

Kindly provide us the solution ASAP

Best regards,

Sathwik

  • Hi Sathwik,

Our experts have been notified and should reply soon.
  • Hi Sathwik,

If I understand correctly you are interested in Re-Synchronization functionality i.e. when motor is spinning prior to start command; it should directly go into close loop and start spinning, correct ?

If Initial speed detect is enabled than it should be ale to catch up when motor is spinning, can you please share waveform of phase voltage and phase current during this condition.

The frequency of BEMF (phase voltage) when driver is not driving should be greater than ISD threshold and if it so it should go directly into close loop.

  • Hi Krushal,

Thank you for your response. Yes ,I have been interested in the Re-Synchronization functionality. I have verified all the ISD threshold values so that Re-Synchronization could happen but I couldn't achieve that functionality. Does the closed loop threshold or any other parameter has an impact on the resynchronization?

  • Hi Sathwik,

ISD threshold should only have impact on this functionality. Monitoring phase voltage should give idea of frequency when restart is commanded and compare that against the ISD threshold.
