DRV10983: DRV10983 not able to reach maximal motor speed

Part Number: DRV10983
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8305

Hi I' m Massimo,

We are using DRV 10983 for driving a 12 Vcc  10000 rpm fan motor .

With the follow configuration we are able to spinning the motor but we are to reach 6500 rpm not more , when we try to increase the speed

over 6500 rpm overcurrent block is set and the motor stopped.

At 6500 rpm the maximal misured current is 1,2 A.

Please could you help to understand where is the problem

BR

Massimo

  • Hello Massimo,
Our experts have been notified and should reply soon. Thank you
  • Hi Massimo,

The drive angle of the motor might adjustment, try adjusting the 'T control Advance' setting on the basic GUI setting page and optimize this setting.
Since the motor needs to be operated at high speed, can you increase PWM switching frequency from 25 kHz to 50 kHz. It can be done on 'Advanced Setting' page of GUI by checking Double output frequency box
Can you also share the wave forms of phase current, it help us debug the problem.

If possible please share motor specification like resistance, BEMF constant, inductance etc.

    Regards,
    Krushal
  • Hi Krushal, thank you for info.
with double output frequency and T control advance = 260u we have reach 7700 rpm , at this speed the current is 1,63 A with voltage = 13,8V.
if we try to increase speed overcurrent block is set and motor is stopped.
The Motor datas that we have are: max speed 10000rpm, internal resistance 0,190 ohm, 6 poles .
Unfortunately I'm not able to append the DRV10983 GUI screenshot.
Could be possible that this motor is too big for this driver , in this case is it available another chip with higher current ?

    Regards
    Massimo
  • Hi Massimo,

We don't any chip with integrated FETs with higher current rating than DRV10983. We have gate driver ICs like DRV8305 which would require external FETs and would be able to drive motor with higher current.

    Regards,

    Krushal
