I am trying to fine EtherCAT BoosterPack link !

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE, TMDXICE110

Hi.

Good day!

recently I saw a video which was related to EtherCAT and  2 board was available for EtherCAT interface

1. one of them was EtherCAT BoosterPack which can be connected to LUNCHPADXL-F3202837xD. but I could not find the link of it .would you please tell me where is ?

I do not want to work with Ccard Daughter Card (SPI/EMIF) Format because I have a  LUNCHPADXL-F3202837.

2.would it be possible to work with  LUNCHPADXL-F3202837xS.(single core). or not?

How about LUNCHPADXL-F32069M ?

thanks for attention

Best regards.

Dave.

  • Dave,
TI Design for EtherCAT on Delfino can be found at www.ti.com/.../TIDM-DELFINO-ETHERCAT

The TI design talks about adding etherCAT solution to F2837x in form of two form factors - Booster pack and daughter card. The Booster pack design is for F2837xD launch pad with SPI as PDI access and the daughter card form factor supports both SPI and EMIF (ASYNC16) PDI access to ET1100.

The above TI Design, enough information is provided for customers to build their own boards and there is HAL demo SW (without EtherCAT stack) provided with this package as well to get users started. We don't sell booster pack or daughter card that are referred to in this design as separate product(s).

Now, the below product is a TI reference platform for EtherCAT solutions for F28379D. The below platform is a better choice and will help you get up to speed quickly as there is SW collateral provided in controlSuite (C:\ti\controlSUITE\development_kits\TMDSECATCND379D_V1.0) from basic HAL demo to a sample application with EtherCAT slave stack running on the F28379D MCU.

    www.ti.com/.../TMDSECATCNCD379D

The SW collateral provided for the above reference platform runs on CPU1 of F28379D MCU, so I don't see any reason why it will not work with F2837xS. As far as SW is concerned it is completely portable to F2837xS platform.

Now pertaining to HW platform questions you asked: -
1.> The SW provided is tied to the TMDSECATCNCD379D kit which is control card based. The SW provides an option to be built for F2837xD LaunchPAD (once you import the provided CCS projects from ControlSuite for this kit, you should go enable line 67 (USE_EMIF1) Macro in F2837xD_device.h file).

You should be able to buy the TMDSECATCNCD379D kit, take the daughter card out and put it on the back of F2837xD LaunchPAD , note that you should have the latest revision LauchPAD for F2837xD for this to work.

There is atleast one other forum user who got this working with Launch PAD.

We haven't ported the solution to F2806x, but the SPI HAL (SPI PDI access to external ET1100) should be portable from F2837xD to F2806x and once you have the HAL talking to external ET1100 from MCU via SPI then the same EtherCAT slave stack port for F2837xD will work for F2806x.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks a lot  Dear Santosh Athuru !

I got a bit confuse about the variety of this products ,why it has  so many Designed kit for EtherCAT  ....

I made  servo Drive and I want to add EtherCAT to it In such A way that can communicate by CNC controllers which have EtherCAT port. Please Help me to make right decision. Thanks in advance .

1.is that any difference between  daughter card and Boosterpack EtherCAT , shall we use daughter Card instead of  the Boosterpack EtherCAT  for LUNCHPADLX_F28737xD(using Spi interface)?

    2. which one is better to start TMDXICE110 or  EtherCAT daughter card,,as far as I know  EtherCAT daughter card has Video to setup and using it , How about   TMDXICE110?

    3.I love TMDXICE110 since it supports multi-protocol.

4.but Dear Santosh Athuru, when we have this powerful interface then why we should use ET1100 .( daughter card and Boosterpack EtherCAT) !!!

sorry for my questions I want to make right decision.

thanks I hope I take right decision and save my time .

    Best wishes :).

    Dave.

  • Hi Dave

Users have to make the selection between multi-protocol and Ethercat only feature. The following explanation may help your questions better.

TMDXICE110 is ideal for multiprotocol option with SPI as your interface link to the Motor control MCU. If the serial transfer rate is adequate for your system this will meet the current and future needs.

Beckhoff's ET1100 is just Ethercat only and offers faster throughput on EMIF/SPI and can offer easy adoption to the existing Ethercat eco systems.

F28379D and F2837xS MCUs offers serial/EMIF interfaces. Both the Ethercat boosterpack  and ccard Ethercat daughter reference designs can work with these MCUs. Hardware interface wise, Ethercat daughter card can also work with LaunchpadXL F28379D through the high density interface.

TMDSECATCNCD379D, that is available for development on www.ti.com, can offer the Ethercat HW/SW solution in one place. If you restrict the SW development to one CPU of the F28379D, then the code should be nearly ready to run on your customer hardware with F2837xS

    Hope this helps

    regards

    Sam
