DRV10987: Low Speed starting operation

Part Number: DRV10987

Hi Team,

Do you have any insight into how well the DRV10987 would perform on a 24V, 2A BLDC motor which needs to control its speed anywhere from 50rpm to 2000rpm? From what I understand, the Back EMF detection and control algorithm only works at higher RPMs. Is this correct? Would the motor be able to start at an initial angular velocity of 50rpm?

Regards,

Mihir

  • Mihir,

It depends on the BEMF generated. It is possible to run DRV10987 with a low electrical rate (maybe 10Hz) if the BEMF constant is large enough to generate something on the order of 100-200mV of BEMF.

It is usually easier to initially start the motor at a higher speed and then lower the speed afterward.

    Thanks,
    Brian
