TIDA-00626: Importance of onboard oscillator Y1 and Y2

I am working on the reference design of TIDA-00626 and facing some issues. I want to know the importance of onboard oscillator ie Y1 and Y2 in the reference design. also is it ok to completely reject the onboard oscillator in the design as mentioned in following PDF on page 11 we can completely disconnect the on board oscillator Y1 by bypassing the resistor and use the reference oscillator of LMK61E2. Please help me with the design that if we can eliminate Y1 and Y2 as they are not available in the market,tida 00626 datasheet.pdf

  • Hi Pratik,

    Onboard oscillator Y1 and Y2 are the options to provide the high performance fixed frequency reference to LMX2592, whereas LMK61E2 is programmable frequency reference option to LMX2592 for reducing the integer boundary spurs. Anyone of the reference you can use for PLL synthesizer. Hence, if you have LMK61E2 on board, you can eliminate Y1 and Y2.

    You can disconnect the Y1 and Y2 from the OSCin path of the LMX2592 by removing the resistor R11. Generate OSCin reference signal using LMK61E2 and follow the steps in section 6.2 of TIDA-00626 user guide to program the device.

    yhank for clearing the doubt.

    as seen in the reference design photo seems that they have only connect Y1 and eleminated Y2. so please clear my doubth that can the reference oscillator work only with Y1 being on the board

    Yes, this reference design works with only one reference oscillator. That can be Y1 (fixed frequency) or Y2 (fixed frequency) or LMK61E2 (programmable frequency reference)

    Out of three, please insert/connect only one reference to the LMX2592 and others are eliminated.
