TPA2016D2: Clarification : AGC disable and Fixed Gain.

I am using 'TPA2016D2' in one of our products. I want use it for volume control. I am generating 'Tones' from MSP430F5529 and TPA2016D2 is required to adjust the audio power.

I need the following clarifications, 

1. If the AGC is disabled and the fixed gain of amplifier is set as 0dB and a tone of 5 Khz is given as input. The output voltage of the TPA2016D2 should be equal to input voltage. Please confirm if this operation is possible.  We are not able to replicate this result.

2. By using a compression ratio of 1:1, can we disable AGC?

    Hi, Let me comment on your questions below:

    • What is the difference you're observing on your measurements, I'll double check on my side.
    • You can set compression ratio to 1:1 and disable the limiter and noise gate, this may be similar to no AGC.

    TPA2016D2 is set at 1:1 compression ratio and Release Time is set as 0(zero). In this condition, The positive gain change is reflected in the Audio output but the negative Gain doesn't change the audio output. When using negative gain, the Output voltage of the TPA2016D2 doesnt reduce and the Output audio Power doesn't reduce.

    Hi, We've received similar question a week or couple weeks ago, some debug is ongoing. Not sure if it's the same case, but I should be able to get back with further comments after testing on my side early next week.

    Hi Ivan,

    Were you able replicate the above condition? Is negative Gain achievable when the compression ration is 1:1?

    Hi, I've been testing this, negative gain is not possible for compression ratio of 1:1. Actually negative gain is only applied on the compression region, not overall input/output range. I'm taking some plots to better explain this, but that's the overview of the device behavior.

    Hi, Adding the attached report for clarification. As described, attenuation is not possible. The negative gain settings for compressor set to other than 1:1 is basically moving the gain slope offset, but once it reaches 1:1 curve it follows 1:1 gain, no attenuation.
