TLV320ADC3101: TLV320ADC3101 Pop

Dear Expert ,

Good day!

Our customer use the TLV320ADC3101IRGERT in their application , they found turn the earphone volume to the maximum, and you can hear POP sounds from time to time when there is no input source .

Here is the schematic

They said someone who use this device before  said  : The device will have a bug to create the pop when use the single-ended input , But I never heard about it , could you help me to confirm it ? 

 I told the customer to modify the schematic with the list below , Please help to check the schematic whether have other problems

1. Add the Bias cap 

2. AVDD had better always connect to AGND , although they use the Bead to connect the DGND.

  • Review Schematic:

    1. R432,R434 Not needed

    2. R486,R488,R493,R494 ACAN BE 22 OHMS. R494 should be placed close to clock source.

    3.  pullups on SDA and SCL Line to 3.3v needed. Can be 3k3.

    4. U34 Is a switcher that generates  -5v. It may be safer to reference it to digital gnd.

    If a popping sound is created from time to time when Headphone Volume to maximum, it may be due to poor layout of headphone stages and High currents  mixing with 

    small signal circuits. They should use Star connection for Output amp Stage and return its grounds seperately to Power supply Electrolytic

    According to the above changes, there will be POP noises from time to time, even without any audio input. There will also be POP sounds when switching between LINE IN and MIC ,please check the pop video from the customer , normally the video is quite .

    Can they connect the input to ground ? The incoming end of coupling capacitors need to be ground.

    I had confirm with customer , the pop is still exist when they connect the input to ground .

  • How is the Digital Audio connected to a sound Amplifier ?

    Can they send the waveform of WCLK,DOUT,BCLK.MCLK and let me know the frequencies? They need to do this with input grounded.

    Can they send the I2C Commands they use.

    Sorry for replying you late ,because these days are China National Holiday .

    For POP issue , the customer feedback below

    -1 ) when switch the Gain ,  LINE/MIC , Bitrate ,the pop will occur , please check the video`s 11s ,23s ,3m2s phenomenon.

    -2) Switch the Bitrate to med or low , then turn the volume to highest , it will have the beep noise , but if you switch the bitrate to high , the beep noise will not occur .

    -4) All inputs are connected to the test waveform of GND. CV22 serves as the host I2S and TLV320ADC3101 serves as the slave clock and is output by CV22.

    DOUT test waveform, frequency test is 96.15KHz

    WCLK test waveform, frequency test is 48KHz

    BCLK test waveform, frequency test is 1.54MHz

    MCLK test waveform, frequency test is 12.25MHz

    I apologize for my delayed response. We had some holidays in India the last week.

    For some reason I cant seem to hear any audio on the file you sent me.

    Is it that the pop sound comes only when we try to change source or gain? If so you can try register 82 page 0. Before changing source or gain Mute ADC Channel with Register 82 . After changing Gain Unmute ADC Channel.

    With Input on ground do you see any activity at all on DOUT When attempting a source or gain change?

    寄存器配置LINE IN (IN1R  IN1L通道)时, MIC1 MIC2输入说话声比较大时会串入到LINE 模式下也能听到点声音;同样寄存器配置为MIC1(IN2R)  MIC2(IN2L)输入时,LINE IN输入音量调到最大也会串到MIC1(IN2R)  MIC2(IN2L)模式下能听到点声音;
     
    寄存器配置page1 register 52 配置0xffff  page1 register 54配置0x3f  page1 register 55 配置0xffff  page1 register 57配置0x3f  去除所有输入选择了,但MIC1、MIC2还是有声音输入,和正常的有较大差异。LINE IN通路要声音比较大的时候才会有异常的呲呲声
