TLV320AIC3212: Class-D Speaker Output Filter

Hi,

On our design based on tlv320aic3212, we are connecting a mono 8ohm(800mW) speaker at SPKLP/M. Can the speaker be connected directly to the class-d output as given on the TLV320AIC3212EVM-U?

Do we require an L-C filter at the class-D output from the audiocodec?

We observed that the speaker is getting heated when playing audio. The heating is observed on the EVM as well.

Hi,

This device can be connected straight to speaker and can also be connected with ferrite bead for EM filtering.

Hi,

You should check the speaker ratings and its recommended connection etc.

I don't know your setup and the kind of speaker it is but you can debug by adjusting the gain or volume and see if that reduces the heat.

You might want to consult with the speaker manufacturer.
