My customer is asking: "Regarding the PCM2704 vs PCM2704C, is there any differences if the device will be plugged-in an Android tablet? Since the PCM2704 is not recommended for new designs, I understand that this is safer to go with the PCM2704C?"

Hi Arash,

From my understanding, the key difference is windows 7 compatibility. Since Android is the operating system, C vs non-C will not be a problem?

Yes Steven, PCM270xC was updated so that it was compliant with the Windows USB audio 2.0 standard. So I believe both should be okay.

Hi Arash,

My customer came back to me with this information:

"We did some tests today using the PCM2704C and the PCM2900C on an Android tablet.

Both are detected by the tablet (PCM2704C as a headset, PCM2900C as a headset with microphone), but the volume +/- buttons and mute button are only working with the PCM2900C."

Please see what they are experiencing below:

1.PCM2704C on Android 4 device = not detected at all

2. PCM2704C on Android 8 device = detected and able to output sound, but +-and mute doesn’t work.

3. PCM2704C on Android 10 device = not detected at all

4. PCM2704C on Windows device (for testing only) : everything works fine

*****************************

PCM2900 on Android 8 : everything works fine

Your help would be appreciated understanding the expected compatibility with Android devices for the PCMxxx family.

Sorry Steven, I got an answer but not what you were hoping to get. These devices were designed before Android was even released! we need to let the customer know that TI does not development hardward drivers, and they will need to find other Android experts to ensure these tools can be used.

I am going to close this ticket as it seems we can not find an answer related to Android drivers.
