TLV320AIC3007: capability of class-D amplifier concerning 4 Ohm Speaker

Part Number: TLV320AIC3007
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3100

Dear TI-Community,

according to the TLV320AIC3007 datasheet the "mono class-D output is capable of differentially driving an 8-Ω speaker.". Other Codecs of the TLV320AIC3XXX-family are even capable to drive an 4-Ω speaker differentially.

Is it possible to drive an 4-Ω speaker differentially with the TLVAIC3007's Class-D? Are there any futher specifications or experiences? I'm very grateful for any help. Thanks a lot!

  • Hi,

It's recommended to use the rated 8 Ohm speaker as it doesn't specified the minimum speaker impedance like in the other family which has 4 Ohm as the minimum impedance.

If you want to drive 4 Ohm then TLV320AIC3100 can be an option.
