TAS5805M: PVDD Ripples Spec

Part Number: TAS5805M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5805

Hello, we are designing the power supply to produce the PVDD rail for TAS5805. We are setting the nominal voltage for 24V but we need guidance on what ripple spec should we design for? Obviously, the lower the better but what level we should stay below to avoid noticeable audio degradation (10%, 5%, 1%)? Thank you!

  • Hi Mustafa

The ripple voltage on the PCB will be greatly affected by the capacitance and the capacitor type you are using, the output power, also the layout of your PCB. We can't provide the specific data. We recommand to leave some space at your first version of PCB, place a larger capacitor at first. And throung test results you can decide how much capacitance you can save.

  • This is doesn't really answer my question. We will figure out how to maintain a given ripple spec, but what is the ripple requirement for this IC. Doesn't having too much ripple impact the THD+N parameter? Have you measured THD+N given various PVDD ripples?

  • Hi Mustafa

We don't have the relationship between ripple and final THD. The frequency component of the ripple is also important as the ripple voltage, the results are different at different working condition and PCB layout.
