LM2876: Mute function not required

Genius 14599 points
Part Number: LM2876

Hi Experts,

Good day. Asking assistance on this query:

In the part number LM2876TF/NOPB, I want to know what happens when the pin no 8 left open. We don't need muting function in my circuit. Can we leave the pin open, how does it affect my circuit performance?

In addition, we need to know the value of VEE in calculating Rm resistor. What value I need to consider there?

Thank you.

Regards,
Archie A.

  • Hi Archie

Left pin 8 open will make the device into Mute state.

  • Hello Shadow,

    Thanks for responding.

Would like to clarify more on this query. See below points:

    1. If pin 8 left open, whether the device completely in Mute state?
    2. What need to be done if I don’t want any muting function in my circuit?

    Thank you very much.

    Regards,
    Archie A.

  • Hi Archie

If you don't want to use Mute function, connect a resistor at Pin 8 to GND directly. The resistor value can be calculated with below formula. Using the Vee voltage you are using, keep the current a little larger than 0.5mA.

  • Hello Shadow,

    Thanks for your guidance.

Can you help us clarified the below points:

    #1
If Mute function is not used, Pin no 8 connected with resistor to ground alone is enough ?. Do we need the switch S1 and capacitor CM.

    #2
Pin no 7 is GND. Whether it is connected to ground directly?. Do we need the transistor Q1 and capacitor CA at that place. Please mention how does it affect the circuit performance.

    Thank you!

    Regards,
    Archie A.

  • Hi Archie

    1. No need for S1 and CM.

    2. The picture you put there is the Single Supply using. CA is used to create the DC bias. If you can provide V+ and V- separately, you can connect pin7 to GND. Like below picture. Please check the Datasheet for more details.
