OPA1677: Piezo model for TINA-TI

Part Number: OPA1677
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

The data sheet for the OPA1677 shows a schematic (see Fig 8-1) for a Phantom powered preamp designed for a piezo transducer mic. It states that a TINA-TI simulation of the circuit is available but I cannot find it. I'm particularly interested in what model has been used for the piezo transducer. Does anyone know what simulation model is being used here or if the file for the schematic can be downloaded.

  • Hello Robin,

The engineer covering the OPA1677 is out of office through out the US Holiday weekend until Tuesday.  You can find a similar discussion here, where the piezo contact mic was represented as a capacitor on the simulation, but I will let the OPA1677 application's engineer get back with details on Tuesday.

    Thank you and Regards,

    Luis

  • Robin,

The simulation circuit is not available however I have created this circuit in Tina Ti for convivence and used the capacitance stated in the product data sheet that was used for the result. I checked the -3dB point with a few various values of capacitance and it seems to align with the stated datasheet equation for the low corner frequency. My simulated gain is slightly higher than the result in the data sheet. My suspicion is that the data in the data sheet was measured or done with an early version of the model prior to release. Please see the attached Tina simulation circuit below.

  • Hi Chris. This has answered my question with regard to a method of simulating the piezo element. I've tried running your Tina file but it comes up with the error 'Missing syntax element. Line #262.{SCK}'. Do you have any idea what this error means? Regards, Robin.

  • Robin,

I have re-downloaded the file and it seems to be running for me. Are you still having trouble with it?

    Best Regards,

    Chris Featherstone

  • Hi Chris. It still won't run but don't worry about it. Now might be a good time to get to grips with PSpice for TI instead of TINA. I'll rebuild it in there and see how I get on. Thanks for your help. Regards, Robin.
