TAS5634: over current protection

Part Number: TAS5634

Hi team,

My customer is encountering an issue with implementation of TAS5634.They are developing a subwoofer with this device but cannot get full output.  Specifically, over-current protection is engaging at a lower level than shown on the datasheet.  They have used other configurations as well, but for the sake of this conversation they are using a 56.5V rail and 5 ohm load.  According to the datasheet (section 7.3), these conditions are acceptable.  OC_ADJ resistor is 27k per guidelines in section 8.3.4.  According to these guidelines, over-current protection should engage at 14A, but we cannot get any more than 10.5 - 11 A out of the amplifier before it shuts down.  Over temperature protection is not engaging, and the shutdown is immediate when instantaneous peak current over 11A is produced.

Do you have any idea what could be causing this issue and / or what we can do to realize full output?

Warmly,

Connie

  • Hi, Connie.

The PVDD is 56.5V and the load is 5Ohm, so the theoretical maximum output current is 56.5/5=11.3A. So I think the 11A maximum output current is normal, and about the shutdown issue I have some questions need to confirm:

    1. Which mode do you use, BTL or PBTL mode?
    2. Can you observe the FAULT pin and OTW pin to make sure what specific fault it is?
    3. Can you observe the CLIP pin to make sure it is normal, or do you set the chip shutdown once clipping?

    Best regards.

    Wei Qiu.
