TLV320AIC3254: Analog in plus I2S in

Part Number: TLV320AIC3254
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC34, PCM3168A

Audio team,

Is it possible to configure the TLV320AIC3254 to have 3 analog inputs, plus an I2S input, mix them, and output on an I2S?

Can they also output the mixed signal on analog outputs?

I have a block diagram if that would help.

Thanks,
Darren

  • Hi Darren,

It depends on what you mean by inputs. There are only 2 ADC channels, however one channel can be bypassed to analog outputs, meaning you could get 3 channels of audio on the analog outs. You could mix 2 channels onto 1 ADC channel but that would leave you unable to isolate them in the I2S bus. If by 3 inputs you mean one channel is single ended and the other is differential (still 2 channels of audio) then yes what you ask is possible.

    Best regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

It's important that the 3 input channels are mixed, including mixing it with a digital input (I2S).  Each analog input channel is a single ended microphone input.

They want the output to go to I2S.

It sounds like this is not possible with the AIC3254 because of the fact there are only 2 ADCs.  So, looking at TLV320AIC34, it has 4 ADCs, but the two mixers don't appear to be connected.  Is that right?

Otherwise, I see the PCM3168A is an option.  I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Darren

  • Hi Darren,

If they want the output to be I2S, does that mean they want all inputs condensed into a left/right I2S bus? Or do they want each source independent of each other at the digital output like a TDM bus?

    Best regards,

    Jeff
