TPA2025D1: TPA2025 -Operating quiescent current

Part Number: TPA2025D1

Hi Ti team,

Is the Operating quiescent current in the picture below when it is boosted or is it not boosted? If it is not the Operating quiescent current of the boost, what is the approximate Operating quiescent current of the boost?

  • Hi Switch,

When EN pin is shorted to VBAT boost is operating as well. So this should be quiescent current including the boost converter (as well as the amplifier).
Most likely there are no further details for separated quiescent current of amplifier and boost individually.

  • Hi Ivan,

Thanks! My customer did a test, the quiescent current is about 2mA without the inductor, and the quiescent current reaches 20mA with the inductor. It seems that the quiescent current of the specification is not boosted.

  • Hi Switch,

Thanks for the notice. I just double checked some other non-boosted amplifier spec and quiescent is also around 2mA.So customer observation makes sense.
We'll consider adding a note on the data sheet to specify the quiescent current spec is for amplifier only.

  • Hi Ivan,

At present, the quiescent current of TPA2025 reaches 20mA when boosting. Is this reasonable? If 20mA is reasonable, the quiescent current of TPA2025 seems to be a bit large when boosting.

  • Hi Switch,

Based on the spec, the combined efficiency is 82% at Pout=1W and VBAT=3.6V. They may compare to this in order to know if their consumption is higher than normal.

I'll get an EVM to run a similar quiescent current measurement.

  • Hi Switch,

It's been some long time since last communication, but I've got some test results from EVM:

    • I measure ~5mA quiescent current when powering the EVM from 3.6V. This is with the inductor in place.
    • However boost is not enabled (PVDD ~= VBAT) when measuring quiescent current. Boost is only enabled when output signal is close to VBAT level (this is called Class-G boost). Were they seeing PVDD boosted even when not playing any signal?
