TLV320AIC34: TLV320AIC34IZAS - Audio Codec Design Observations

Part Number: TLV320AIC34

During our testing of audio on TLV320AIC34IZAS, following are the observations. The schematic design used is in attachment for reference.

1. As per datasheet recommendations, the power supplied to each section is as follows:

AVDD_DAC - 3.3V; DRVDD - 3.3V; IOVDD - 3.3V; DVDD - 1.8V

2. We have currently enabled only Channel A of the device. The configurations of ADDR_A, RESET_A, SCL, SDA, MCLK_A, WCLK_A, BCLK_A, DIN_A and DOUT_A are driven by our host as per schematic attached. We are able to detect the device through I2C bus.

3. Resistors R202, R213, R198, R209, R197, R208, R234, R233, R232 and R237 have been removed. R281, R282, R244, R246, R245 and R247 are 0Ω. The amplifiers U17 & U18 have been by-passed for time being.

3. Requirement is for 3 MIC and 3 SPKS. The MIC functionality is found to be ok.

4. We have connected three 8Ω, 2W speakers which are of same make. The first one is connected to HPROUT_A, HPLOUT_A [Headset], second one to HPLCOM_A, HPRCOM_A [Hands free] and third one to MONO_LOM_A, MONO_LOP_A [Handset].

5. The speakers connected to HPLCOM_A, HPRCOM_A is working fine, if HPRCOM_A is connected to GND. This arrangement is done in our hardware.

6. However, speaker connected to MONO_LOM_A, MONO_LOP_A is not working with the design as per our schematic. We have observed this in two of our hardware boards. Pin MONO_LOM_A was connected to GND but still audio is not observed on the speaker.

Pls check and suggest.TLV320AIC34_SCHEMATIC.pdf

  • Hi Kishore,

HPROUT_A, HPLOUT_A  & HPLCOM_A, HPRCOM_A should be able to drive an 8Ω load as mentioned in Pin Functions table & section 9.3.26.

MONO_LOM_A, MONO_LOP_A similar to LINE OUT can drive a 10kΩ load so I suggest not bypassing U17 and seeing if that works. MONO_LOM_A, MONO_LOP_A  does not have sufficient power to drive 8Ω load directly.

Can you share a register dump and the connection from the output to the 8 Ohm speaker?
