PGA2311: How do I change the dynamic range -95.5 to +35.5 dB to be -40 to +18 dB ?

The PGA2311 covers a wide gain range of -95.5dB to +31.5dB in 0.5dB steps, which encompasses the gain range requirement of -40dB to +18dB.

Is the gain step of 0.5dB too large in the Customer application?

Constrain the gain changes in software, in whatever microcontroller is used to send the control messages to the chip over SPI?

Hi Andy,

Correct, the PGA2311 is programmable via SPI in 0.5dB steps, so the user can program the gain level required as long as it is inside the range. The device offers a wide gain range of -95.5dB to +31.5dB in 0.5dB steps, which encompasses the gain range of -40dB to +18dB.
