TLV320AIC34: iMX8M Plus connection options

Part Number: TLV320AIC34

Dear sir or madam,

we are currently evaluating the possibility of including TLV320AIC34 in one of our designs based on iMX8 platform.

The main requirement is that we need 4 audio streams playing simultaneously on 4 endpoints, that is the main reason to get to the AIC34 with the Codec A + Codec B option.

Our main concern now is which is the best option to attach the audio codec to the main processor, as far as we know we have two options:

TDM based option:

We use one SAI output to interface both audio codecs (A+B) and the audio is time domain modulated.

Dual I2S option:

SAI has the option to have two Tx channels and two Rx channels. The clock signals would be shared between Codec A and Codec B but the data signals will be splitted.

Questions are:

1) Which is TI recommendation?

2) Do you see any drawback in using the second option?
