TLV320AIC3109-Q1: Device Recommendation

Part Number: TLV320AIC3109-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2505

Hi team,

I am looking for audio codec for toy application.

Requirement:

1. low cost

2. I2S interface

3. Audio DAC to drive low power mono speaker

4. no need for MIC input

Do you have recommended device?

Best,
Zeming

  • Hi Zeming,

If no MIC input, is there an analog input of any kind? Without AIN i'd recommend  DIN speaker amp.

What is the load & output power desired for speaker? Is customer interested in CODEC with integrated speaker amp to reduce BOM?

    Regards,

  • Hi Daveon,

Thanks for your reply. This is a simple toy application, only speaker to play indicator sound, so no need for any analog input.

The customer needs I2S interface to receive digital audio signal from MCU and integrated audio DAC and AMP to drive mono speaker.

If there is no such device, multi-chip solution is acceptable.

I am not aware of the power of the speaker, but it should be low power.

This application is still in a very early concept stage, the customer is collecting information of useful devices.

    Best,

    Zeming

  • Hi Zeming,

Given that the project requirements aren't fully outlined my best recommendation is TAS2505. Since it is a toy application the output power of speaker is likely <5W, Class D is the most popular & efficient architecture, and pricing is very competitive .

For your clarification, note that any audio speaker amp with a digital input practically has a DAC integrated inside. As the conversation continues ask the customer specs that fit the quick search tool: https://www.ti.com/audio-ic/amplifiers/speaker-amplifiers/products.html

*Also note if the speaker is a 4 or 8 ohm load.

As you get more information, you can ask if certain features would be beneficial to their application (IV sense, boost, Speaker protection algorithms, etc.) and find more information by typing "winlpa/" in your browser.

  • Hi Daveon,

    Thanks for your kind suggestion.

This device seems to be good. I will confirm with the customer.

    Best,
    Zeming
