TAS3208 I2S input bus Fs support 32KHz?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS3208

Dear Sir,

In TAS3208 Datasheet page 1 it mention TAS3208 I2S slave mode is 44.1KHz and 48KHz only master mode is 48KHz only but in TI website

http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tas3208.html Parameter table it mention Fs 32 to 48KHz, and in datasheet p18  mention sample rate support 32K / 44.1K /48K, I want ot confirm TAS3208 I2S input support 32K sample rate?

In datasheet page 10. it is mentioned

In slave mode, all incoming serial audio data must be synchronous to an incoming

LRCLKIN of 32, 44.1, or 48 kHz. The TAS3208 does not support the use of an external

(i.e., 24-MHz) clock input into XTALI.

That means TAS3208 digital audio input 32 /44.1 /48KHz for LRCLK input

  • Hi,

I have been informed that it is possible to feed in 32 kHz content.  However, the ROM filtering code was not written for 32 kHz (written for 48/44.1 kHz), so audio quality will be degraded.  A user may write their own filtering code for 32 kHz in assembly, but in that case all development would have to be done in the IDE; the GDE could not be used in this case.

So short version is that 32 kHz operation is technically possible, but not preferred.

    Thanks,

    Bobby T.
