TAS5518 group delay

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5518, TAS5614A, TAS5631, TAS5614, TAS5508C, TAS5518C

State:

TAS5518 & TAS5614A at 192 or 176.4 kHz. All biquads switched off. DRC switchted off. Louness switched off. Only amplification control is used.

I want to use electro acoustic feed back on bass section.

Question:

What maximum group delay I can expect from amplifier in microseconds or samples?

  • Hi, Constantine,

Without any processing incurring delays in the TAS5518, the internal DAP has a 1 FS latency and the noise shaper, etc has a 3 to 4 FS latency.

The total latency is 4 to 5 times the sample frequency thru the 5518.

The TAS5614 has some delay also. It is very similar to the delay in the TAS5631 discussed in this thread:

  • Hi, Don!

Thanks for this information. It is very good, that delay is not large.

One more question. TAS5518 has no individual by channel volume control on some channels in 175/192 mode. Is it good method to use mixing coefficients instead of individual volume control? I have no need to tune individual volume control at any times in my project.

Is it better to use TAS5508C instead of 5518?

  • Hi, Constantine,

I'm not sure I understand your questions.

Table 2-2 says there is 1 master and 8 individual volume controls when operated in 176.4 and 192 kHz modes.

Do you mean TAS5518C versus TAS5518? If so, yes, definitely, the C version is the latest and greatest.

If you mean TAS5508C versus TAS5518C, I am actually not sure of the differences between those two parts. Let me know if that's your question, and I'll look into it for you.

  • Oh, yes, Don!

I has only TAS5518 datasheet and I think that TAS5518C has the same functions. But TAS5518C has individual volume controls in 176/192 mode when TAS5518 hasn't it (Figure 1-5)

What the difference between TAS5518C and TAS5508C? I don't need in any service functions such bequads, buss and treble control, loudness and DRC. In datasheets, 5518C has 110dB dynamic range, but 5508C has 102dB - Why? The number formats and math processing are the same.

    Thanks for answer
