We have an existing design which uses the TPA3123D2 but need to verify the signal inputs it can tolerate. We supply all VCC from +24V and all GND are at the same 0V potential. I note the absolute maximum input voltage is +7V but i believe even at 20dB gain, the amplifier will distort with such a signal.
Do you have data which indicates the maximum input signal p-p or RMS level which the amplifier can handle without distortion? The IC is used in stereo mode, so SE configuration per figure 27 of the July 2007 datasheet.
My thought was the maximum p-p output will be something like Vcc / 2, and so i can generate a table such as:
But i don't know if this is correct, can you confirm?
Furthermore, if the amplifier is driven with an excessive input level, does this trigger protection or simply cause distortion?

Hi,
The peak of output can not higher than PVCC. So if you do not want to output signal clipping, you should limit input level.
Long time continuous may cause thermal warning or OTSD.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply. So would I be correct to take the PVcc (24V in our case) and simply subtract the gain to provide the maximum input voltage? eg for 24V P-P output (or is it 12V P-P given its not a full bridge?).
