This is a follow up question to a string of recent questions related to the MC33078 Common-Mode input voltage performance of the part.
There is a fair chance that the Common-Mode input voltage range will be violated in our circuitry: The voltage at the inputs will exceed the voltage on the MC33078 power rails and latch up may occur, but there will always be limiting impedances that should prevent damage since the current will be limited to 500uA or less, far less than the 10mA maximum rated current for the inputs.
This situation may occur due a race condition: The MC33078 amplifier input voltage may build up milliseconds before the amplifier's power rail voltages build up.
Our Question: As soon as the power rails increase and the Common-Mode input voltage requirement is no longer violated, will the amplifier resume normal operation, or will it be stuck in a "latched state" until power is cycled? (When I think of the term "latching", I think of a latching relay that "sticks" in a certain state even when the voltage is removed from the coil. I'm just wondering if the same phenomenon applies to this particular amplifier.)
I've never dealt with this issue in the past: Past Amplifier rails were always set up before the input voltages were applied, and inputs were always considerably less than the power rails. But I will be inheriting this design from another engineer about to retire.
