Hi,

I am using TAS2563YBGEVM-DC together with PPC3-EVM-MB & PP-SALB2-EVM according to https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaa952/slaa952.pdf?ts=1679312072239. Connecting to the EVM via USB and PPC3 seems to work fine, the only issue is that I cannot set the TI USB Audio UAC2.0 sound device since it does not appear as an option in Windows Sound Settings / Sound Control Panel. I suspect the issue is related to the USB Audio drivers, at least this is how they appear in device manager (with a yellow mark):

I also get this message when starting PPC3 with the EVM connected:

but I don't think that is relevant to the issue?

I have tried the following to fix this so far:

1. Reinstalling drivers and PPC3
2. .NET Framework repair
3. sfc-scannow command in cmd (did nothing for me)
4. Installing the Microsoft Windows OS update
5. Repairing Visual C++ Runtimes, using Windows Key + R → appwiz.cpl

Would appreciate any help with this if you know of something that might fix this.

    Hi Mats,

    Let me add some comments/suggestions below for debugging:

    • As you mentioned, the warning message is not important in this case, this should not affect the operation of the EVM.
    • Attached is a standalone installer of the TI Audio USB Driver:
      • Please execute this as administrator on your PC.
      • After that, your driver installation should update at C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\USB Audio Device Driver\W10_x64.
      • Now use Device Manager to update the driver, select the option to manually select a folder and go to the same directory as above.
      • The driver should be updated now. Let me know if still having problems.

    Hi,

    Thank you, that seems to have at least made the driver available in Windows and I can now set it according to the setup guides. However there doesn't seem to be any sound output. After looking a bit around I found that there might be an issue with he CP PG Flag?

    The datasheet isn't very specific of what the cause of this flag might be, but as far as I can see it is related to the GREG pin? So I measured both sides of C30 (GREG pin series cap), CREG side measures 4.52V and the PVDD1 / VBST side measures 4.35V which I think should be OK with a measured VBAT of 4.9V?

    Hi Mats,

    Can you share a picture of how your hardware setup looks like?
    The EVM comes with 2 devices on it, please make sure you select a different I2C address for each one, or remove the power (IOVDD, VDD, VBAT) jumpers from one of them. We should check each device individually.

    Hi,

    This is my HW setup:

    I had already removed power from device 2 before starting testing. But after removing power from device 1 and inserting jumpers for device 2 power (J1, J4 & J5) there was apparently a full short circuit when trying to power the board - further investigation shows that VBAT2 was causing the short circuit. So my board might have just been damaged all along.

    I also tried removing power from device 2 and powering device 1 again, with a different I2C address than before. Now I at least got to read a temperature and voltage from the device but a few minutes later it returned to power-down mode and was non-responsive. Seems my best bet might be to just get a new board?

    Hi Mats,

    Thanks for sharing more details.

    That VBAT short is unfortunate; yes, I would suggest replacing the TAS2563 daughter card first and if that doesn't work, you may have to replace PPC3-EVM-MB as well (notice the VBAT connection on PPC3-EVM-MB is directly shorted to VBAT on daughtercard).
