TPA3116D2: Audio forum

Part Number: TPA3116D2

Hi,

I want to use the TPA3116D2 amplifier to output a minimum of 50W at frequencies in the 20-30kHz band with a 1Vrms input signal, 4 Ohms load.

After various tests in PBTL mode, my output signal saturates as soon as 0.7Vrms, and a power much lower than 50W (20-30W).

Here are my questions:
- In PBTL mode, should I use one LC filter per channel (so 4 LC) or use 2 LC (one for the right output, one for the left output) and then connect them all to the load?
- Does the LC filter have an impact on output power?
My PBTL circuit uses 2 inductors (6.8uH) and 2 capacitors (1uF).

I also tested my assembly (2 LC) with the evaluation board (4LC) in PBTL mode, using the same component values = 10uH and 680nF. It seems that the PBTL mode of the evaluation board, with 4 LCs, allows much more power to be output.

Do you have any suggestions or answers to these questions?

Best regards,

Both using would be fine. You could only use 2LC and connect as below picture shows. Also could use 4LC and connect after the fitler.

My PBTL circuit uses 2 inductors (6.8uH) and 2 capacitors (1uF).

Mostly the inductor need to pay attention. Make sure the rated current of inductor is larger than your working current. Otherwise the inducotr would satuation and case OC problem.

Please check if you are using the correct inductor. And maybe capture some waveform at the output side, to show what is the current problem.
