PCM2704: Volume controls

Part Number: PCM2704
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HID2

Hi, I'm planning to use PCM2704 to provide a good audio output to a Linux based SoM ... I found a prebuilt adapter using PCM2704 working
with this specific SoM but it has only headphone output (with no embeeded volume control buttons) while I would like to provide amplified headphone
and speaker output and tactile volume control (push buttons).

The amplifier I'm going to use has not volume control.

I would like to use HID1,HID2 inputs for volume control but I did not understand how volume control works...

From the docs I figured out that the volume control message is provided to host trough USB protocol and then the actual volume level change is made by host itself is it correct?

My other hypotesis is that HID1,HID2 inputs affects the preamp stage of PCM2704 and change the output level...

Thanks in advance.. Mike
