TAS5705EVM2 using external I2S source

Hi,

I am trying to drive the TAS5705EVM2 with an external I2S source. The SCLK, LRCLK and SDIN1 is connected using shielded cable to the jumper located on the PSIA, the MCLK is remain the same using the onboard signal soucre. The distance between my test circuit to EVM is approximately right next to each others.

My I2S source sampling rate is 48KHz and 16bits and the GUI setting is the same.

Problem:

The output sound is continuous but cracking, I just about hear the tone but not the word.

Question:

1, Do I need to modify the circuit in order to make it works?

2, Are there any options exist in the GUI that I could try?

Any suggestion I would be appreciated

many thx

  • Hi SK,

The I2S inputs need to be synchronized with respect to MCLK. I suspect that in the setup you described, this may not be the case, since MCLK is derived from the adapter-board (MC57xx PSIA board), while the other inputs are external.

The error status register  (0x02) can be checked to see if any clock errors are being reported. Note that the register is sticky (i.e. error status is not cleared even after error source is removed) and it needs to be cleared by writing 0x00 before every read-back.

I would recommend trying a test using all the I2S signals generated on the Adapter board to verify audio can be streamed normally.
