TLV320AIC3109EVM-K: How do i record i2s data into audacity

I have another audio codec that is hooked up to the ti evaluation board through i2s. S0 is set to use external. I have a speaker hooked up to j21 differential output. If i select in the preset configurations in the gui stereo playback to lineouts i am able to hear the audio on the outputs. This is great because it means its successfully getting the i2s data and its going to the dac. Now how do i configure in the gui to send this i2s data back to the computer as i2s data so i can record it into audacity? I've tried different configurations and nothing has worked for me. I have been able to record using audacity succesfully before already but i can't seem to be able to record the i2s audio data that the ti board is receiving. Any help/insight would be great.

Hi Eric,

This part has no I2S loopback feature, so the only way I can think of is to short DIN and DOUT together on the motherboard so that the signal is copied over to the DOUT line, which will take it back to the controller to be transmitted over USB.

Here's a picture of the setup so you can better see.

I tried taking the ti board by itself (removing all the jumpers to the other board) played audio through the i2s and was able to successful record by taking the dino and dout puts and short them together and it worked on both the j5a and j10 connector. If i have it in this setup with the other board and short din and dout together on the j5a connector i'm still unable to to record.

Hi Eric,

I can only support with regards to the TI board, but are you trying to record through the AD device? Trying to record from the AC-MODEVM USB using external clocks is going to be tough since it will be asynchronous. You'll have to set Audacity to record through the AD device.

I'm trying to record the i2s output that is coming from the AD device with the TI board.

Got it.

So when you tested the TI EVM by itself, what was the I2S source if not the AD board?

When i tested the TI EVM by itself the i2s source was the pc.

Hi Eric,

Can you probe the test points on the EVM to double check that all clocks are as expected and that data is making it to the EVM? Also when you record on Audacity do you get an error or is the recording simply blank?
