TAS5805M: LC filiter recommendation

Part Number: TAS5805M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5805

Hi team,

Customer get one question about the following LC filter recommendation in TAS5805 datasheet.

Their input voltage is 15V, and use 1SPW mode, based on the table, we recommend 15uH + 0.68uF.

However, they are considering use 10uH + 0.68uF, and they calculate the peak current is 3.4A, within 5805 peak current limit.

Could you help understand why we recommend use 15uH + 0.68uF when VDD > 12V?

For their application, if it's OK to use 10uH + 0.68uF?

Thanks and Best Regards,

Will

  • Hi Will

The recommended LC filter value considered performance of Idel Loss, Start Up current, Maximum Peak current. Follow the recommendation would be mostly guaranteed, if we not want to follow, need to test under corner condition to see if we could accept the performance.

Their choice will cause idle loss increase, start up / peak current increase. Suggest to test the loss data if could be accepted. Repeat start at both high/ low temperature to find the start up current. Maximum output power at both high/low temperature to test the peak current. Both of the current need to avoid OC happens.
